Discovery Channel to Air Sarah Palin’s Alaska

Discovery Communication's Discovery Channel, a station known for shows like “Planet Earth” is airing Sarah Palin’s new reality show. Sarah Palin is being paid 1 million dollars per episode to highlight the beauty of Alaska. Sarah Palin’s Alaska aims to showcase the “powerful beauty of Alaska,” according to Discovery. That’s right, the former governor of Alaska who championed a bloody aerial wolf-slaughter from airplanes, who fought protecting the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales, and fought protecting the polar bear, and who doesn’t believe in global warming is now the new star of the Discovery Channel, highlighting the beauty of Alaska.

If you are as disgusted by this as I am, visit Defenders of Wildlife to sign the petition against the hypocrisy of this station or visit Discovery directly to contact them. Sarah Palin’s Alaska, where if it moves kill it.

The Big Ricky Martin News

Wait for it…… wait…. Are you ready for the big news….. Ricky Martin is gay! Yep, I know, you are probably as shocked as I am. Who would have thought that the man who brought us the hetero anthem Livin la Vida Loca was gay? Just look at him, he covered it up so well. I would have never thought it, but it’s true, he announced it on his website. Now what kind of manly man are us straight boys supposed to idolize after? And what about all those gay men who actually bought his CD’s thinking he was straight? I’m sure they are just feeling total betrayal at this news. But hey, good for you Ricky, you finally got your name in the news after years of obscurity.

Liberals Are More Highly Evolved

Proof of something I’ve been saying for years now.

A recent study published by the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health has shown that, “People who classified themselves as ‘very liberal’ politically had higher IQ scores as teenagers than those who were ‘very religious’ and ‘very conservative.’” Personally, I’ve never really felt that IQ testing is an accurate portrayal of intelligence, but watching the tea-baggers rant and rave on the news, and having met quite a few self-proclaimed conservatives and religious nuts, I can see how this study might be pretty accurate.

Top 10 Most Pesticide Laden Fruit

Something to think about the next time you are in the produce section. The Environmental Working Group recently analyzed samples of 47 common produce items. Then they ranked them according to the amount and variety of pesticides in each items. Think you are covered because you wash or peel your fruit? Think again, they took that into account for this study. Here’s the top 10.

1 Peach (highest pesticide load)
2 Apple
3 Sweet Bell Pepper
4 Celery
5 Nectarine
6 Strawberries
7 Cherries
8 Kale
9 Lettuce
10 Grapes - Imported

Heath Care Bill Passes, So Now What?

The big news from this weekend is of course, the House of Representatives passing the health care bill. This is a big win for the Obama administration who has spent the majority of his first year in office on this issue. It’s also a big deal for the democratic party, who can now say they’ve done something regardless of the “party of no” continually attempting to block it. Now, the question at hand of course is how will this affect us- the general public? If you listen to the tea baggers and conservative pundits, it’s going to bankrupt the country. If you listen to the liberals and democrats , it’s going provide health insurance for about 32 million more Americans (who may or may not actually need it), stop preventing insurance companies for denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, and Medicare prescription-drug benefit would be improved substantially for the elderly.

What happened to the public option? Under the new bill, all Americans are going to be forced to have insurance. Sim…

A Knee and My Trailer Hitch

Sometimes karma can be awesome. This last weekend I was waiting in my truck to catch a ferry across the Puget Sound. While we were sitting, a couple from the car behind us walked down past the row of vehicles. The guy in front was wearing a slick suite, with perfectly styled super short hair, and walking with authority. The girl following was on her cell phone, in tight clothes, and walking as if she were hotter than she was. My passenger and I of course made fun of them for looking like douche-bags.

Not too long after they walked back past my truck to their car, from the passenger side of the row of vehicles. The guy this time walked behind my truck to get to the driver’s side of his car. My truck has a trailer hitch on it which has saved me a few times from being damaged from a car getting to close. In this situation it provided a laugh as the guy was too busy focusing on himself to notice the hitch and ran his shin right into it.

Thanks karma, sometimes people need the random dumb…

Teacher Calls Student Loser

So how would you feel if you were in the 6th grade and your teacher called you a loser? I know I wouldn’t be too happy about it at that age. The best part of this story is it isn’t the first time this teacher of 12 years has done this to students.

Further proof of the downgrading of our educational system.

No You Can Not Lez Out At This Prom

Proving that bigotry is still alive and well in the south, a Mississippi high school decided to cancel the prom rather than allow a girl to bring her girlfriend as a date. Apparently the girl asked, and they said no. also proving that you should never ask permission to do something, that you should just do it. Because once the school said no the ACLU got involved, parents got involved, and of course I’m sure a few pissed off students at having their prom canceled are involved.

Shoot the First Person Shooters

“Have you played Modern Warfare 2?” I’ve been asked, “It’s awesome!” And so I borrowed it from a friend. The game started off like any other first person shooter, with a tutorial on how to shoot, re-load, change weapons, etc. Then the game play started where my soldier went around shooting things and CG people. As first person shooters go it is a pretty good game. The problem of course is that it is a first person shooter, which makes it not all that different from the previous versions of the game or Halo, Bio Shock, and on and on.

First person shooters are probably the most popular game format out there right now and I’m sick of them. Sometimes you can shoot with both hands, sometimes you can only shoot with one. the buttons you hit to re-load, change weapons, or zoom vary from game to game. And the story line is somewhat different between games. Unless of course you play a sequel, where the storyline is more or less the same or a continuation of the first game.

I’ve come to the concl…

Interviewing in the Down Economy

Netflix and the Long Wait

The movie studios constantly complain about lower and lower ticket sales, yet don’t notice that the more they raise prices the less likely people are to sit in a theatre shoulder to shoulder, with talking people, heads in front, and an overpriced super large soda with popcorn. We now have plasma TV’s, surround sound systems, and beer at home. We also have Netflix. Netflix is of course contributing to brick and mortar video stores closing down, since they allow us to be even lazier and just log into a computer to get the movies we want to show up in our mailbox. Or even better, stream over the internet to our television.

The problem with this of course is new releases usually involve a long wait. I’ve had both Zombieland and The Hangover in the number 1 & 2 positions in my queue since they came out on DVD weeks ago. I could go buy them, but the costs of an actual DVD isn’t worth it. I could pay iTunes, Playstation, or Amazon the rental fee to download and watch it. But I’m paying Ne…

Boycott SeaWorld

Last week the 12,000-pound Orca Tilikum, killed a trainer by drowning, making this the 3rd person the whale it has killed.
The whale was then moved to a small enclosure where it could hardly move while SeaWorld decided what to do with it.
Instead of freeing the whale into an environment where it belongs (the ocean), the parks management decided that the attraction of the whales made them too much money. So instead of freeing the whale, that is forced to put on shows for slack jawed touristic, they decided to just not let trainers in with the whale anymore. That way people can still come and see the show, pay money, and be amazed by the creature that has been forced to live in an unnatural enclosed environment.

Bill Maher on the Dumb and Uneducated

Still think it’s possible for people in this country to still think the earth revolves around the sun? I do, because I had a conversation with someone the other day who didn’t know that. Here are some other interesting statistics about how dumb most Americans are, thanks to Bill Maher.
