Bible Bloggers

Image
So, I was randomly hitting the next blog button at the top of most blogger blogs. Normally when I do this, the blogs are people babbling on about their families, and pets. Or amateur photographers showing off their work. This time I noticed an odd trend. Most of the blogs I was randomly hitting were from the religious-right. People preaching the word of the bible, the love of God and Jesus, and quoting passages from the bible.

So as an experiment I decided to post a question to the blogs and see what kind of a response I get in return? Friendly? Hostile? General response to the question? Or will they just delete my comment, preferring the followers not read a comment from someone questioning their convictions?

The Comment I Left:
Why are there are so many contradictions in the bible, yet the people who follow it seem oblivious to the fact? Instead they choose to pick individual passages to justify their ignorance and intolerance towards others. For example; hating gays yet not "lo…

Congress, Pay or No Pay if Shutdown

Image
With the budget battle going on in congress, people who work for the government are wondering if they are going to get paid. Well the important ones will - members of congress.

A few Democrats have attempted to pass a bill that says, if the government shuts down members of congress won't get paid either. But as can be expected, it doesn't make it vary far. They don’t mind others loosing money, just not themselves.

How To Improve Your Life

Image
Looking for a motivational book that will actually do some good, then check out How To Improve Your Life by Raymond Scudder.

The book provides easy to follow steps on how to think positively, make personal improvements, and live a healthy life. This isn't the kind of book that promises to make you rich, but it will make you feel better about yourself and the world around you, and that can be worth it's own fortune.

Plus I know from experience that Ray is a pretty good poker player, so you never know, this book might also improve your game.

AT&T to Buy T-Mobile

Image
In a world where large corporations are getting larger, and customer service is getting worse and the raising cost to consumers at&t has announced they will be buying T-mobile. T-mobile and Sprint had been in talks to do a merger to compete against at&t and Verizon, the top two wireless carriers. But now with at&t taking over T-mobile, they will be at the top of the list.

Yes, as a T-mobile customer I will have improved coverage. I will also worse customer service and higher costing rate plans. And having worked for at&t and knowing how little respect the company has for its employees and customers, I’ll have to pay my bill each month knowing that I’m supporting a company I detest, because unfortunately, Sprint service sucks and Verizon doesn’t use SIM technology.

House Votes to Defund NPR

Image
In the never ending attempt to block people from receiving news from an impartial source and force them to Fox News, the House of Representatives voted yesterday to stop funding for National Public Radio.

As a campaign promise the right-wing, tea-baggers said they would cut government spending. One of the ways they are doing this is by trying to stop spending for anything they don’t agree with. They want to de-fund NPR. Of course, NPR receives only 2% of it's budget (approximately 22 million a year) from the government, but that's to much for Colorado Republican Doug Lamborn who sponsored the bill that is now on it's way to the senate.

To use 22 million in prospective, the Bush tax cuts for the rich that were approved and Doug Lamborn voted for, cost the tax payers 42 billion dollars a year. And our military budget, that they want to increase, is currently 663 billion dollars.

Do the Republicans really care about reducing government spending, or are they just using the defici…

Earthquake Dangers and Nuclear

Image
The last nuclear power plant built in the United States was completed in 1996, and with the current argument in this country about our growing population and demand for energy, a few, including our current president, have suggested that we consider building some new nuclear plants.

Last week an 8.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Japan causing a massive tsunami, killing thousands and destroying entire towns. Add to that, the impact the earth quake has caused to power generation industry.

There are currently 5 plants that are declared in the state of emergency. One of which has already experienced and explosion and thousands are being evacuated in danger of radiation poisoning, according to MSNBC.

Japan is an earthquake prone country, and technologically advanced, to the point that we can be assured that buildings and power plants are built to the highest possible standards when it comes to the subject of dealing with earthquake damage.

Here is the United States we aren’t as prone to ea…

Photographers Photographs and Cameras

Image
One of the funny things about photographers that I totally don’t understand is the need to always take a self portrait holding a camera.

Seriously, because we are going to your photography website to possible hire you, you think we can’t figure out that you are a photographer without you holding a camera!?!?!?

The Committee on the Radicalization of America Muslims aka Un-American Activities

Image
Taking lessons from another extremist right-wing nut-bag Republican, Representative Peter King has decided to begin congressional hearings on the radicalization of America Muslims.

For the few who know a little about recent history, in the 1950's Joseph McCarthy lead the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations , sometimes referred to as the committee on un-American activities, which basically consisted of accusing Americans of being Communists. The result of being accused ended with people loosing their jobs, celebrities being blacklisted and unable to work, and luckily in the end lead to the downfall of McCarthy. Unfortunately, his downfall didn't happen until after he wasted the country and governments time and money on 169 hearings, calling 653 people to testify, and of course destroying numerous peoples lives.

Now Representative Peter King the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee , and Republican from New York, has decided it's time to revive McCarthyism by…

21 Priests Named in Another Sex Scandal

We hear it so often, it doesn't even cause a flinch anymore. This time, the Philadelphia archdiocese suspended 21 Catholic priests yesterday who are accused of child molestation.

What does faith get you? It get's your child molested, that's what it gets. But don't let that stop you Catholics from sending your children to church, because it happens to the other religious nuts kids, not yours. God will protect yours because you believe.

Gigantic Small at Jack in the Box

Image
I don’t go to fast food restaurants very often for a few reasons. One of the main reasons, of course, being how completely unhealthy the food is.

So the other week, I was out-and-about, and didn’t have a lot of time, so I swung through a Jack in The Box as they tend to be the better of the fast food chains. In my opinion. I ordered my meal, and the lady working asked me which size I wanted. So, I said the small one. Imagine my surprise, when she handed me this gigantic cup. I’m not that old, but I do remember a time when this was the largest size you could get, now apparently it’s the small.

In comparison, on the left is a standard coffee cup. The middle being the largest glass I could find in my cupboard. And of course on the right, the soda that I drank about 1/3rd from before dumping the rest.

Banana Packaging by Del Monte

Image
Because the disposable skin on a banana isn't good enough, Del Monte has decided they need to individually wrap each banana in plastic. Apparently they have a longer shelf life this way. And who cares about that darn plastic, it just goes in a landfill. Out of sight, out of mind.

The Death of Frank Buckles Pershing's Last Patriot

Image
We tend to get so caught up in the now and our own lives that we tend to forget about the past. We read the news of current events and politics, going to news sites where we see more stories about Charlie Sheen or some crazed Republican politician than about real people - people who actually do matter.

Last Sunday the 27th of March, Frank Buckles the last known American to have fought in WWI died at the age of 110. The man joined the Army at the age of 16 lying about his age, before being sent to fight in the war driving an ambulance. During WWII he was captured by the Japanese and was sent a prison camp where he spend 3 and a half years before being rescued.

After returning to the U.S. he got married, had a family owned a farm where he could be seen riding his tractor even at the age of 106. Frank will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

It's sad that this mans death ended up buried in the back pages of some news papers, yet Michael Jacksons death fi…

Republican Senator Wants to Repeal Child Labor Laws in Missouri

Image
In the latest attempt by a Republican to rollback individual rights and government protections, Missouri state senator Jane Cunningham is proposing to effectively eliminate child labor laws.

The Republican from St. Louis County has proposed SB 222 which, "eliminates the prohibition on employment of children under age fourteen. Restrictions on the number of hours and restrictions on when a child may work during the day are also removed." It also, "removes the authority of the director of the Division of Labor Standards to inspect employers who employ children and to require them to keep certain records for children they employ." in essence, a child under the age of 14 could work for a company, and that company could do whatever it wants to that child, and there would be no safeguards in place to protect the child.

For those who don't know (Tea-baggers), at one point in this country, we didn't have child labor laws. The result was, we had children working in f…
